Tip of the Week – Mind your Beetroot
The beetroot that I sowed in the polytunnel in early spring are in good shape now and almost ready for eating. Beetroot only needs moderate watering. Over-watering encourages leaf growth at the expense of root growth (which is what you really want). Under-watering causes “woody” roots which are quite unpleasant to eat. It will also make the leaves go yellow. Keep the rows of beetroot well weeded.
