Adventure #5 Planting and plans (Garlic time)
Sunday 19th October Somewhere on the Cork Road
All those inspiring Garlic stories of Micks (you know, how buying a Chinese garlic from Tesco lead to an international home growing movement) and a reasonably priced garlic at GIY new Ross lead me to find myself spoon in hand (we’ve got no trowels) clearing the little raised bed behind my house of cigarette butts for some slightly felonious garlic planting.
Slightly felonious because I live in university halls of residence and it’s their garden. I thought about asking permission but then I decided ignorance was my best defence and I would have done it anyway even if they had said no.
So fingers crossed in spring I’ll have some great home made garlic bread.
It was really nice to do some planting in my own place. One problem with my nomadic lifestyle is that I haven’t lived long enough in one place for a while to plant something and then get the rewards.
Im not sure if this deserves its own post but around the time I planted my garlic I had a skype call with Paul from Sonas (a business focused on rural development) in Cambodia who is really interested in setting up GIY Cambodia asap! This could lead GIY in a whole new direction, very exciting. There was even a conversation about me going over for their launch. Now that’s what I call an adventure...
