Storing Potato Tubers prior to chitting
I recently purchased Potato Tubers for sowing in March/April.
I don’t want to start chitting them for another couple of weeks and was wondering what is the best way to store them in the meantime?
Don.
Hi Don
Cool and light for chitting, cooler and dark for storing them until you are ready to chit. Just watch out that you don’t leave them somewhere so cold that they are susceptible to frost.

Thanks Micheal.
I nearly got caught out last year. Started chitting in early Feb with a view to planting mid-March only to fing the ground only just warm enough in mid-April. Tubers had shoots around 3” going into the ground! Turned out fine in the end but it was a nightmare trying to get them in without breaking shoots.
I’m aiming for early/mid April (earlies & maincrop) this year but I got the Tubers last w/end in case the Garden Centres ran out of the cvrs I want to grow.
